Built in 1797 in Baltimore, this frigate had among its missions to capture numerous ships, prevent the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands by the British in 1843 or transporting food to Ireland during the great potato hunger of 1845-49. It was also the rst American warship to visit China in 1842 and was appointed as a training ship in 1871. Today it is a museum ship available to visitors in the city where it was born.
